The only known moving image footage of the UCLA Music of Thailand Ensemble under the direction of Professor David Morton. Morton, a graduate of UCLA's Institute of Ethnomusicology, and a UCLA faculty member from 1962 to 1985, was the first non-Thai scholar to undertake serious study of the Thai royal court music tradition. He worked with composer Prasidh Silapabanleng, son of Luang Pradit Pairoh (Sorn Silapabanleng), Thailand's leading composer, teacher, and virtuoso performer of the ranat ek. The UCLA Music of Thailand Ensemble restarted in 2015, after several decades dormant, following the restoration of the instruments played in this footage. The restoration was done by Dr. Supeena Insee Adler.
